Andrean Resource Centre (Museum)
The Andrean Resource Centre (ARC) was officially opened by outgoing Chairman of Council, Dawie Herold, on 20 November 2010.
During the planning phase, there was an appeal from the Old Andrean community for the ARC to become a living and functional space that celebrates the history of the school and its traditions - an active teaching facility as well as a place of reflection, not just a room gathering dust and filled with displays of Andrean memorabilia. In accordance with these wishes, in 2011 it has been used in the following ways:
As a teaching facility: Classes from Grade 8-10 have used ARC for History, English and Afrikaans lessons. Each vertical tutor group has had the opportunity to visit and listen to a number of historical talks.
As a function venue: The 1965-69 Reunion Dinner; a variety of cocktail parties and a funeral tea.
As a sports-related venue: The 1st XV rugby team chose to have their pre-match meetings in ARC. Rugby post-match functions for coaches and VIPs were held after important home games.
As a meeting venue: Council, Independent Schools’ Marketing Association, Heads of four different Gauteng-based primary schools and College meetings chaired by Gavin Shone in his capacity as Business Manager.
Visitors to the Centre included: Members of the ISASA School Librarians’ Conference.
Participants in the Stately Homes Tour, which forms part of the National Arts Festival programme. Bishops, Michaelhouse and Hilton representatives have shown an interest in developing their current archives. A local Church Guild and College Open Day visitors have toured the Centre, as well as participants in the East Cape Adventure Tour which is coordinated by the Marketing Department, numerous Old Andreans, staff and many interested members of the public.
